A little project | Intensity

Travelling opens the door to a whole new world. It changes your perspective of life and once you’ve caught the travel bug there is no going back. Your heart will forever ache to see new places and wanderlust will be a constant companion. We live in an amazing world and there are so many places to explore, so many cultures to get to know and so many mountains to be climbed. I have heard people say that the world is a book and that those who don’t travel only read the first page. However I would rather read only one chapter with such intensity that it truly touches my soul and leaves me breathless than skip through a hundred. Even though I love travelling the world I do not believe travelling is about quantity. Just like with everything in life, quality comes first and when I was living in South Africa I did an experiment that I’m now finally sharing on my blog. Each time I visited a place I found truly beautiful I would stay there, open my heart and fully take it in instead of rushing to get somewhere else. When I thought I had truly seen it and felt it I asked my friend to take a picture, as a souvenir of my experience.

Sometimes, all we need to do is stop for a minute. Forget about everything else and just embrace the beauty this is in front of us. To me, travelling does not only mean exploring foreign places, it also means getting caught in the moment and getting swept away. And only if we allow that to happen, we are travelling in a way that does not only enrich our mind but our soul. Of course this does not only apply to travelling, it applies to everyday life as well. Even if we’re just reading one page, we can make sure to read it intensely, to fully comprehend the beauty of the words and we can also open our spirit and read between the lines. From time to time, we just need to lay all the worries and thoughts aside and allow ourselves to get carried away and to fully live in the moment, just like a child.

The moments caught in the pictures above are those that I will never forget, those that have left a permanent mark on my heart. And if I close my eyes, I can almost feel the buzz of Cape Town and I can almost hear the crashing of the waves.

Can you remember the last time you got truly caught in the moment? x

  • Such an incredible post, Mira! I love the concept of it. We do forget to take a minute to feel those moments when we travel. We want to just rush and see as much as we can but we don't truly feel it.

  • great post
the pictures are flawless, and you're so lucky to visit Cape town literally in the top of my must see cities, also i go along with you concerning travel isn't about the quantity or the number of stumps on the passport but it's more about enjoying the place you are in. for me,the last time i got caught up in the moment is when i was at Ouarzazate in the sud of Morocco, it was the best trip i've ever experienced.

  • Oh this post was beautiful, Mira. I am also a traveller at heart (even though sometimes my budget only allows for me to travel my own city with is sometimes just as fascinating). I agree with you one hundred percent– a lot of the times when we travel, we sometimes get caught up in all the trappings of the must-sees, we must see this, and must have time for that– and we forget to truly look at what is really in front of us. That said, I think you will really enjoy the New York post I just posted πŸ˜‰

  • Quality over quantity any time! xx

  • Thank you so much, I'm glad you liked it! And you're right, travelling at home can be just as exciting, beauty is everywhere we go! Definitely and that's such a shame. That sounds perfect, I love NYC and I'll definitely check out your post! xx

  • What a well written post I couldn't have said anything better and it's totally true! I travel to have an experience and to be in that moment. That's why when I travel you will never see me jumping from one place to the other so quickly. I also love to embrace what's in front of me and just take it all in and admire it's beauty. Really, really, really beautiful post!

  • I love your idea behind this project. It's so nice to just slow down somedays and take everything in, it makes you appreciate everything so much more. I love travelling, I can't understand how some people have never left the country and they're in their 50's or 60's. It's the best way to learn about yourself in my opinion.

These photos are beautiful and so powerful!! I agree with you, travelling is all about quality not quantity – and actually, this logic applies to most things in life. I haven't been able to travel much in my life, but the places I've visited, I absolutely loved. My first trip abroad was to Paris and it was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. Now I have a trip to Morocco to look forward to – it's happening at the end of this month, and it will be the first time ever I'm going outside of Europe! Very excited. πŸ™‚ Like you said, the world is such a big, beautiful place, and I'd love to see as much of it as possible. Thank you for sharing this lovely post! Kisses. x

  • Thank you so much for this comment, this makes me very happy! And yes, life in general is not about quantity, it is about quality and that definitely applies to travelling – it isn't about visiting every single country, it is about truly cherishing every experience. Paris is a beautiful city, I really have to visit again. And I can understand that you're excited, I would love to visit Morocco! πŸ˜‰ xx

  • Oh this is such a beautiful piece. I forget when I was caught in the moment, it feels like I'm always so busy. If could remember, it was a drive down the road with my boyfriend. Just quiet and falling asleep. But even then I was worried for the time. I regret that now. I wish I didn't look at the clock so often.

  • That is amazing! Yes, definitely, there is no going back. xx

  • Thank you so much! This sounds like a really peaceful and quiet moment and I get that, I also worry a lot about being late and I wish I didn't because there is nothing I can do anyway. xx

  • This is awesome. I love to be quiet, breathe in a place and soak in that feeling of the space around you. I spent a lot of last year seeing the world on a ship and had many of these moments I wanted to snapshot & hold onto forever. Bali was up there! Have you been? Great snaps.

  • Thank you! Wow that sounds amazing, I have never done that but I would love to try this form of travelling! No, I have never been to Bali but so many people have told me it's amazing and it is definitely on my list! :)xx

  • Nice to see you truly enjoyed your time there Mira, the passion in this post speaks volumes. We are always on the go especially in London, sometimes we just need to take a breath and appreciate how beautifully God made this world! Amazing! Shannon // shannonkara.com

  • So TRUE! Couldn't agree more, it's truly not the rushing uncomfortable organization or the too tight schedule of time that makes one fall in love with travelling, it's the beauty of the location one has taken in and where one has left a piece of his heart.
    Great post!

  • What an amazing post. Travelling does a world of wonders for the soul. It not only educates but if you let it, it teaches you about yourself too. I had a few of those moments on my last trip back in Jan. The most magical had to be at the Grand Canyon. The scale mixed with snow just took my breath away. It was so magical. So was Monument Valley, but I wish I took more time to enjoy it, because I don't think I could return, too many sad stray dogs looking for food. That broke my heart.

  • Thank you! You described that perfectly, that's exactly what travelling is a about! And the Grand Canyon also took my breath away, it was an experience I will never forget! Oh that sounds really sad, that would certainly break my heart too!

  • This is amazing, just reading it started making me slow down and take things in with more intensity. I love that you had the idea for this project and the way you took the photos, and how you only took those photos once you knew the place had truly registered with your mind and soul, so amazing. Some of my best travelling moments have been when I have been sitting or standing still somewhere and just taking in the scenery, I can picture myself back in that environment with so much ease!
